The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College is not just about the performing arts. We are about all aspects of the arts, as well as building and connecting community. To that end, one of the missions of the Shannon Center and the Friends of the Shannon Center is to support and feature local visual artists in our lobby gallery. We feature four to six art shows per year and are excited to watch patrons of our events come upon works of art as they arrive. The lobby gallery is open from 11:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and also one hour prior to public performances.

Featured Artist - Trinity Rael

Trinity Rael is a completely self-taught artist and blessed with the gift to create. Her interest in art began at a very young age. It began when her parents gave her a journal to write in at night. Trinity never wanted to write, she only drew. To date Trinity has over a dozen filled journals with sketches and drawings of anything she imagines. Trinity began to showcase her art at the age of 8 years old when twenty-five of her pieces were on display in her local City Hall. Since then, her art has been on display at the Whittier Library, Downey Theater, Pizza Studio, The W Art Exhibit, Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College, Orange County Fair, and twice as the youngest artist to show her paintings and sculptures at the Hillcrest Festival of Fine Arts where she has received two Honorable Mention Awards and a Second Place. In 2017 Trinity was awarded two first place awards at her High School District Art Competition making her the first in 33 years to take both awards for sculpture and painting.

When Trinity is not in school, playing tennis and water polo, or playing her banjo, you can find her at home painting, drawing, sculpting, or sewing. When Trinity is in school, she usually just wants to leave and do art. Trinity is already working on a her portfolio and would love to attend an Art School in the fall of 2020. You can follow her on Instagram @trinityraelart.
