You are invited to the West Coast sneak peek staged reading of a new play: Trial on the Potomac: The Impeachment of Richard Nixon.
Starring Rich Little in the dramatic role of President Richard M. Nixon, the play was inspired by The Real Watergate Scandal (2015) by Geoff Shepard, who was a member of President Nixon’s Watergate defense team.
Trial On The Potomac: The Impeachment of Richard Nixon, written by George Bugatti, speculates about what might have happened if President Nixon had chosen to stand trial in the Senate, rather than resign. The major difference is that all of the questionable actions by judges and prosecutors that Shepard has uncovered over his past fifteen years of research are disclosed at the trial itself. The play asks, “If everything we know now had come out during a Senate trial, could the Democrats have mustered the necessary 2/3rds vote to convict?” The full play reading does not hit New York until April, 2020, but you can experience an advance reading on Saturday, November 9th at 1 pm in The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts at Whittier College.
