George Sarah is Electronic composer and multi-instrumentalist. Born in Seoul, South Korea, he moved to the USA at the age of five. He has garnered critical acclaim for his unique brand of electronic acoustic music bridging the normally discrete musical worlds of electronic and classical as well as Americana and folk music.
“La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc”: After being commissioned by Los Angeles Grand Performances to compose a live score for “The Passion of Joan of Arc,” Sarah has been performing this piece throughout the U.S. This critically acclaimed 1928 silent film by Carl Dreyer is brought to life with a haunting new score, which re-imagines this classic with a modern urgency. Combining electronic music with strings, sacred chant by four voice choir, composer George Sarah has crafted an unforgettable visual and auditory experience.
TELEVISION/FILM: In 2018 he completed two feature films one of which a horror thriller had it’s premier at the Cannes Film festival. In Aug 2008 he composed music for the ceremonies at the 2008 summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. His songs have been featured on the hit CBS shows “CSI”, CSI NY, HBO, Chris Rock’s “Everybody hates Chris” 28 episodes for the Discovery network, and performed his songs on the hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Three Episodes), and has had his music played on Buffy spin-off ‘Angel’. His songs have been licensed to over 150 tv/film and multi media projects.
RADIO: A regular on college and NPR and college radio stations across the country including KCRW his albums have debuted on CMJ’s RPM at #1.
CD RELEASES: George Sarah has sold over 35,000 Cd’s and has appeared on over 40 compilations and 10 full length releases. He has collaborated with members of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, David J (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets), Alain Whyte (Morrisey), James Fearney (Pogues), Robert Williams (Captain Beefheart), Joss Wedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Avengers), Angela McCluskey (Telepopmusik), Beijing Modern Dance Company and many other guests.
CONCERTS: Sarah frequently performs in the L.A. area at venues such as Grand Performances, UCLA’s Royce Hall, The Getty, LACMA, SFMOMA Gerhard Richter reception and opening for artists such as Bebel Gilberto, The National, Goldfrapp, Stars, Olafur Arnalds, Crystal Method, Natacha Atlas, Lindsey Stirling, A Guy Called Gerald, Carl Cox, Michael Franti/Spearhead, Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing, The Bad Plus, Nortec Collective to name a few. In November ’98 George Sarah and his string trio played a two-week residency in Paris, France to consistently packed houses. He has also performed as tour bass guitarist for Death Ride 69 opening for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, and toured Europe and the U.S. with his previous project THC and Stereotaxic Device.
